I'm scheduled to arrive in Brentwood at around noon tomorrow for a few hours of coffee mug packing, then a full weekend of doing whatever Tenesseeans (?) do for fun. Probably pack coffee mugs. x;-)
I'm assuming that though deserted this island still has some power source and cd/dvd player (sorry, I've had to do too many investigations of late!)therefore the CD would be anything by George Strait;Books would be "Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood" and "Grapes of Wrath"; and the movies would be "Gone with the Wind", "The Sixth Sense" and the first "Raiders of the Lost Ark".
First, will this deserted island have a CD player and TV/DVD player? Deserted? It will have electricity?
I'll bring my tenor and bass trombones and my flute and maybe my tuba - no electricity needed. OH, maybe bring my dulcimer and finally learn how to play the thing. That would take care of the music. I'd have to bring music books, especially Bach cello suites transcribed for bass trombone.
CD: I'd make a compilation of Tony Bennett, Sinatra, Sergio Mendes, Santana, Rolling Stones, Black Eyed Peas, and anything else that trips my trigger and also proves I have multiple personalities.
Books: two blank journals. (Since I am planning this trip vs. being shipwrecked, I intend to bring mechanical pencils...) Two pre-written books would get boring pretty quick, but with journals I could keep myself entertained for quite some time.
Movies: Chicago, Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles.
If we already have all this technology at the deserted island, cable would be nice. Internet too?
Having the technology already there would indicate that it would not be deserted.
I'd have to buy some self-help books (2 hard cover, 1 audio book) to include "Building Signal Fires" in case of Ship Sighting, "Edible Wild Plants on a Desserted Island" and the ever popular "How to Building a Grass Hut for Dummies".
They could have swooped in, installed all the stuff, then deserted the island...
I like the self-help book ideas. Wonder if a book of matches would count as a book. Gonna need some fire to cook seaweed and coconut for dinner. (I am NOT gutting any fish!)
If this very advanced society left behind a StarGate we could just have food "sent" in! Self help books would not help me...if I don't know it by now...forget it! Of course we could all be like McGyver (sp?) and get off the island with a pair of tube socks, a plastic spoon and some dental floss!
I thought there was a Stargate thread goin' on there for a couple posts... We have the CD packets of all the Stargates that are available. Tonight we are making home made pizzas for dinner with home made brownies and store bought ice creme for dessert and watch: 1969, Groundhog Day, Worm-Hole X-treme, and The Other Guys episodes. Is it 5:00 yet???
CD would be Ray Charles Greatest Hits, books would be the Boy Scout Handbook and The Columbia Desk Encyclopedia, and I can't think of 3 movies I wouldn't get bored to tears with, so I guess whatever Netflix sends in a boat.

Ok, if we are going to get to 300 posts we will need to create some discussions.
Question: If you were headed to a deserted island, and could bring 1 CD, 2 books, and 3 movies, what would they be?

Bon Jovi vs. Aerosmith??
Who can suggest Battle of the Bands II?
Good suggestion, Ray.
