Requirement for retaining job

A specific certification is now required by June 30th for our business (in FL). Can a private non profit employer mandate the employee to get this certification on their on time, non-paid?

  • I'm not sure that FL would be different than another state. If the state requires a certification to hold a certain position it is not the employer's obligation to provide the means to obtain the certification.

On the other hand, how many people do you have that will need the certification? Is there no grandfather clause? grace period? Are there people who already have the certification that you can/do employ? In other words, if you don't help out will you have enough people to get the job done?

  • The staff have until June 30 to obtain the certification. It is a new state requirement for our business. Yes, enough will comply to get the job done, thanks.
