My "cheap" place to buy gas, Diamond Shamrock, went up to 2.55/gallon yesterday. Holy cow, 28 cents in a week. How about your area?

$2.45 this morning, but that was a $.10 jump from yesterday--and it may have gone up again since then.

$2.38 last night at Kroger - I didn't check this morning. If you have one of the grocery scan cards they hand out, they take another .03 off - not much consolation, but it's something.

I'm only a hundred and eighty miles from Memphis. I hear gas is cheaper there. I'm gonna start driving up there to fill up! Gotta do what makes sense.

It's about 2.55 here...walmart had it for sam's club members at 2.37 yesterday...incredible when that's a huge savings!!!!

$2.67 per gallon, up $.20 cents since last Monday.

Greater Cleveland area $2.699 up $.42 cents from last Thursday! I believe that the price will probably shoot up to $3.00 per gallon (probably a little more) with-in the next several months and then drop down and stabilize at between $2.809 to $2.909. That way the oil corporations will have suckered us into believing that we're getting a deal. Think about it ... look at what gas prices were a year ago compared to now. Or, look at what they were a few months ago. For instance, a few montha ago, gas Prices in my area were hovering around $2.399, when they'd drop down to $2.199 it was a big savings. It's been happening for over a year now.

$2.37 but there is one ho-bunk town that is giving it away for $1.99!!! Worth the trip to NH.

I'm in Jersey, so we only pay 30 cents a gallon, just like it was 1973. 'Course the water's a funny color and all, what with the refinery being up the road, but hey, who cares. Actually, I’ve stopped looking at the prices cuz then my bar tab goes up.

Karen in nh - where are you located? The $1.99 was at the South Tamworth General Store (Gulf). Purchased it there just last week (although by the way the prices are changing [by the lunch break] who knows now!)

Edit: I filled my Concorde at $2.499/gallon at Sam's Club. It's $2.54+ everywhere else in Central NH.

Thank heavens I don't own a car...However, I live in a co-op apartment and we were just advised that depending on where fuel prices are when winter comes, we will very likely have a rent increase.

If you bought a box with a headlight in it at Wal-Mart, what would you do with the contents? Do you realize what you're missing by never having the pleasure of going to the oil change clinic early on a Saturday morning?

I did once have a car. First, of all, you can always rent a car for weekend trips and/or funerals. Second, many of the stores deliver for free or you carry it. Third, Wal-mart in NYC - ain't happened yet (though we do we have a Home Depots, Lowes and Target. Furthermore, the Home Depot in Manhattan has concierge service). Finally, the only pleasure that ever came from getting an oil change was trying to convince the guy that the air filter that was put in the week before doesn't need replacement (why was it never pointed out to men about the air filter?) and that the reason I have children is so they can wash the car (here, car washes and oil-change places are in the same location).

Day before yesterday my 16-year-old said she was only going to put a couple of dollars in the tank to get her to work, because gas was $2.45! I told her she better fill up, because it was only going to get worse. Yesterday was $2.59 (2.63 on the KS turnpike) so she was glad she listened to me.

$2.769 in the Milwaukee metro area. Here in good ol' WI, we have something like the second highest state gas tax in the nation. I think it's around $.37 or $.38 per gallon now, and indexed to the price of gas, isn't that great? The legislature doesn't even have to take any action to increase revenue.

I paid $2.47 Monday at a Cumberland Farms (Gulf), but the highest I've seen in RI is $2.69 (Shell, Mobil). I am not looking forward to the winter. My house is heated with oil. I heard the prices are going up.

It's still about a fifth (no pun intended) the price of whiskey. So, it might help if everyone would simply stay at home one day per week and drink. Is this a logical deduction or what?

This sounds like the logic of someone who's already stayed home a day with a fifth. Wait until gas is MORE expensive than whiskey before you stay home and drink.

In 1973 I remember a gas war with prices as high as $0.19/gal. Man those were the days.

I remember last summer when we were all complaining because it wa $1.79. I WISH!! When I looked yesterday, it was $2.74. This is ridiculous. In my humble opinion, there is no good reason that gas is this expensive. And, I don't think it will ever go below $2 again. I"m obviously in the wrong business!

Safety, you must be close to my age--& I'm not telling. When my husband was stationed in Calif. in Navy days, the gas wars were almost constant. It was great!

It jumped to $2.55 today--up $.10. And that's for ethanol, which is always several cents cheaper.
