How do you feel about Southern Gospel Quartets? Such as The Cathedrals, The Kingsmen, Gold City, The Gaithers to name a few. I must admit these are some the groups that I cut my teeth on back in the 60's and 70's. I even sang for a few years in few semi-pro gospel quartet. Have a great day....

You can still catch the Gaithers and other Southern Gospel Quartets on Saturday evenings at 7:00 on the PAX channel.
I grew up listening to some of those..my parents loved them. The Cathedrals aren't together though anymore right? I have the Stratler Bros. Christmas CD and still LOVE to listen to it for the holidays..
Actually, the early BeeGees were pretty good -- Especially liked the song they did about a mining disaster -- I think it was called NY Mining Disaster 1941 or something.
I can't believe no one mentioned Springsteen! The 1st 45 I bought was "4 Dead in Ohio" Am I revealing my political leanings? Currently listening to the Chicago soundtrack "Whatever Happened to Class?" is a hilarious song......:DD
My first 45 I personally didn't purchase because I was too young. It was Elvis, back when 45s had two cuts on each side and the jacket was a full sleeve, not just a paper cover. My favorite cut was "Teddy Bear" and my mother colored the RCA Victor dog on the label with a red pencil because I couldn't yet read and she got tired of telling me which side to put up on the record player. I made a regretable decision during my teen years. Not wanting any of my friends to know I was listening to such old Elvis records, I threw away the jackets so they couldn't see what was in my record rack. I still have the records but not the jackets.
As for my favorites, I can't even begin to make that choice. But I agree, Simon and Garfunkel - is there any better song than Bookends? My best friend died in November and I just can't get Bookends out of my brain when I think of her. James Taylor and Carole King rate right up at the top, but I still crank up the volume for Aerosmith or Tony Bennett.
Will listen to Vivaldi's Four Seasons or Pachibels Canon anytime.
Thanks, Parabeagle: Another lunch hour down the tubes!
The Original Long-Haired Musicians:

Led Zep- trivia- how'd they get their name? Steely Dan Marvin Gaye Pearl Jam Gipsy Kings
I'm challenged now to find the answers to the other trivia questions. I love a challenge.
As you guys continue to make lists, and I love them all, guess what's playing in the background? It's an 8-track tape stuffed in the middle of the plush padded dashboard of a 1970, metallic blue Pontiac Catalina. BO DIDDLEY - Diamond Wrang. Uuugly Stick.
Course there weren't any 8-tracks when Bo first took over the airwaves but they put him on casettes soon as they were invented. Talk about a twangin' git-tar!
