Okay, I've helped out as much as I can for now ... the thread is at 90 posts now.
Looks like it's going to be up to us West Coasters to take it to 100. The easterners are going to start punching their time clocks soon. Anybody got any good movies to suggest for Valentine's Day? Oh, what about My Big Fat Greek Wedding? I haven't seen that yet but it comes out on DVD today. Any opinions?
Haven't seen "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," but have it shipping from Amazon. I never shop in stores anymore.
I have a soft place in my heart for the oldies....Hepburn/Tracy, John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara (just re-saw "McClintock!" the other day - love it.) Sleepless in Seattle, While You Were Sleeping, American President...oh my gosh somebody stop me!
Great suggestion! I think my wife and I will have a Die Hard Marathon on Valentine's day. Die Hard, Die Hard 2- Die Harder, and Die Hard 3- Die Hard with a Vengence. She'll love it. Thanks.
Well, our job is done here. 100 plus posts it is. And no matter what, I'm thinking "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" for Valentine's Day - Sorry Bruce Willis.
Of course I could always do a Godfather marathon. But then we would have to sit through Godfather 3. What an utter disappointment. I don't think I've ever seen the whole thing. Why Coppola put his daughter in it is beyond me. I'll stick with Die Hard. Nothing is more romantic than Bruce Willis busting through a window with his bare feet first.
After emptying a magazine of 9mm ammunition from his trusty Beretta through the window to get started (feeling very manly right now! Sort of like Tim Allen in Home Improvement - Argh! Argh! Argh!)
I would most definitly recommend buying or renting the new release, "Sweet Home Alabama"!! I saw it in the theatre with my husband...(suffice to say, he was brought along for the ride) but he really enjoyed it. We bought the DVD just this past weekend and watched it again. Still good the second time around. Great romantic flick for Valentine's Day.
I still stick with my previous post of "When Harry Met Sally" (Billy Crystal, Meg Ryan) for a good Valentine's Day movie...other romantic movies that I'd recommend would be, "Sweet November" (Keanu Reeves, Charlize Theron), "Untamed Heart" (Christian Slater, Marisa Tomei), "Return to Me" (David Duchovny, Minnie Driver), "Someone Like You" (Hugh Jackman, Ashley Judd) ...and just about any other Meg Ryan movie; "Kate & Leopold" (with Hugh Jackman), "You've Got Mail" and "Sleepless in Seattle" (with Tom Hanks), "Prelude to a Kiss" (with Alec Baldwin).
I'm sure there are others out there that I'm forgetting, but these are the ones that I've always enjoyed in the "Romantic Comedy" category. Hope this helps you to decide!
I didn't see the movie, but I heard just last night about a line from the Bull Durham movie that I think is a great line for either a woman or a man to use in the right circumstance. The woman in the movie (what's her name), in a moment of high passion, accidentally called out the name of another man. When the guy 'with her' expressed alarm, she asked him, "Would you rather I sleep with you and call out the name of another man, or sleep with another man and call out YOUR name?" I don't know if that would make me any happier, but, I suppose it is a point well made.
"Bull Durham" is full of great quotes. Susan Sarandon plays Annie Savoy and narrates the beginning of the movie by comparing baseball to religion. ("For instance, there are 108 beads in a Catholic rosary and there are 108 stitches in a baseball.") And of course Kevin Costner as Crash Davis explaining to Annie what he believes in - much of which can't be printed here! If some of you haven't seen it it's an absolute must.
This is not my all-time favorite movie, but non-negotiable nevertheless: WAITING FOR GUFFMAN. People who don't like this movie definitely don't share my demented sense of humor. Also with the same cast and mock-umentary format: BEST IN SHOW. As a recovering dog show cult person, I can tell you it was all true (I had a near-relapse after the past two nights of Westminster Kennel Club viewing.)

Anyhow, I love baseball movies that aren't always just about baseball. So to add to "Field of Dreams" (see post above) "Bull Durham."
