Yes, we allow folks to use a sick day if they want to. "Sick" days were reclassified by us to Sick/Personal days. Also, our holiday eligiblity for pay is different from yours. As long as someone has worked during the pay period or has used either their vacation or sick/personal days during the pay period, they are paid for the holiday.
We close down the Thursday and Friday of Thanksgiving week. Our 10 hour shift staff (Monday through Thursday) have Thursday as Thanksgiving holiday and are not scheduled for Friday. Our five 8 hours shift staff have Thursday as Thanksgiving Holiday and Friday as a floating holiday. Our three 12 hour shift staff (weekends - Friday, Saturday and Sunday) have off Friday as their Thanksgiving holiday.
Unbelievable as it may sound. The company I work for - that doesn't offer many benefits, vacation days or any personal days or floating days - does give the day after Thanksgiving off.
It will however not give two days this year at Christmas - just the Friday that is Christmas Eve.
