Wow, thanks for the laughs. I truly liked #1 - very, very funny. :xclap

I would suggest the job titles of HR Administrator or HR Representative at a non-exempt (hourly) pay grade. In my opinion you are not at the manager or director level although you may field some of the questions/issues that rise to that level due t…

I believe it all is taxable as it is considered additional income to the employee. I'm not an expert but these are my thoughts on this... 1. - yes it's taxable (additional income / bonus) 2. - yes it's taxable (regular mileage reimbursement) 3. - …

For us our QA person is as Nae stated the person responsible for setting the policies and making sure they are followed. Our QC person is the one who physically performs the procedure to make sure we are in spec of said guidelines. QA=Compliance …

We also pay for all travel time. Same as allsteaks and Dutch.
-
I would say that it would be compensable as this is a requirement for the job. New hires as well as current employees should be paid for their time to travel to/from testing site as well as time taking the test.

Thanks Dutch! I appreciate the information. So with your policy, if someone took a paid leave of absence (vacation, personal, sick, medical etc.) that was scheduled around a holiday you would still pay holiday pay. Correct?

Sorry to hijack this post but I also have a question regarding holiday pay but in regards to shift workers. If you have shift workers, how do you work it with them? Do they get a set amount for holiday pay such as 8 hrs or do they get credit for t…

We also have a similar plan that's called a waiver credit. This is for employees who opt out of our medical plan. Employees get a annual credit of $720 which is paid to the employee throughout the year based on their pay cycle. This works out wel…

We have such a policy. It's called a spousal surcharge. The annual cost of it is $720.00 which is prorated based on the pay cycle of the employee. It is based on the honor system and not all employees who's spouses have other coverage volunteer t…

We have such a program but I don't administer it. I believe our employees (ie. our sales force) get a monthly stipend depending on their vehicle such as the year, make, model and average yearly mileage for wear and tear on vehicle etc. This paymen…

If an employee is out on business then yes we would pay for all costs associated as long as it's justified and is a legitimate business expense. We would not reimburse for movies in a hotel room, gym fees or tickets to events just because the emplo…

Glad to hear about the update. As a possible suggestion, you may want to consider offering employees who opted out of insurance a waiver credit. We offer those employees a $30/bi-weekly credit every pay period. Food for thought...

We also had a similar situation. What we did was first ask all employees who had regular contact with this employee to minimize the fragrances that they use on their body to what they use in their office; such things from perfurme to plug in fragra…

Another alternative would be to purchase some air purifiers. It not only helps with body odors but also cleans the air. We had a temporary employee who was getting complaints of body odor so we bought a germicidal air purifier from Sharper Image. …

Joannie, do you do pre-employment testing? If not, then I would recommend it. That way the individual can discuss their current medical situation with an approved Medical Review Officer. Also you can provide them a copy of the job description and…

DOT testing that is done periodically and for recertification would require filling out forms and such with the doctor or clinic. I would think that the physician would notice this on their form that the employee filled out where they list the medi…

Another option would be to work with a local staffing agency. We have done this in the past and tested in data entry, typing skills (wpm), Microsoft Office program knowledge on Word, Excel and sometime Access. This is easiest for us as it's third…

I'm curious on this one. Who pays the temp employee for their daily wages if they are out for jury duty (regardless if they receive a stipend for their civic duty). I would say that the staffing agency would be responsible to pay the temp employee…

Allsteaks was correct in that Swift used the Basic Pilot program to the letter and did everything correctly only to find out later they did have illegals. The Basic Pilot program is only as good as the data we/they have to work with and that is t…

We would only pay for scheduled work hours so in your case it would be 4 hours. If someone was not normally scheduled for that day (the holiday) then they would not be entitled to holiday pay at our facility.

I agree with the others that this is a performance issue. I would have his supervisor reiterate the job duties etc. etc. It may have been something as simple as that night was an unscheduled buffing day or something. This may not be something that…

What is your normal policy on safety violations? I ask because I would have to agree with your foreman and manager. This is the first safety violation for employee #2 but yet employee #1 will only get a write up for his first safety violation? You…

Irie, thanks for keeping me in line. It dawned on me later after posting this that I was confusing two policies together. Unfortunately I wasn't able to follow up on my post (until today) so this ended up bugging me all weekend knowing I did this …

It depends on what the FMLA was granted for originally. If the leaves are for the same reason, then you would have to wait until 7/13/07 for another 12 weeks. However my understanding is that if the two are different, then they able to take an add…

I agree that you should not provide them to her. Have her make the request in writing by whomever wants them with her written approval. In all honesty, she could have made her own copies when she was an employee if they were really important to he…

I think that this employee has put himself up upon a pedestal and is refusing to come down. So I would say that you should follow your normal dislipinary process regardless of his H-1B visa status. If he has been a good employee in the past and is…

We are also a manufacturing facility with production and administrative staff. What we do here is purchase gift certificates from our local Chamber of Commerce. They can be used in any local business that accepts a check and in this way we are spe…
