I think Dr. Cruise needs a lobotomy. 8-| Several years ago I was diagnosed with depression and Paxil was prescribed. I am now going on month eight trying to wean myself from this drug - at my doctor's advice. The side effects are and have been muc…

I love that show also. But was the little boy really kidnapped??? Or was that just a nightmare I had?

I do believe in the death penalty, but for this horrid man I think he should get life without parole. And in his cell there should be pictures of his wife and baby when they were found.

As a proud Hoosier, I can say with complete honesty that Artest should be banned from playing basketball for life. This display of his has put a bad name to basketball and to the Indiana Pacers. I have a more unsettling reason for wanting this t…

Thanks for the info

Do you know who wrote this? It's so beautiful. I'd like to send it to my niece that is serving in Iraq, but I'd like to acknowledge the author.

Just wanted to chime in - I also renewed a couple of months ago and received a T-shirt. And no, I won't be posting a picture.

Our policies are controlled documents. Employees are given hard copies and must sign for them. We've also posted them on our intranet, but have placed a watermark on all pages that states they are uncontrolled documents and to check with HR for …

We pay on the 15th and last day of the month, but if payday falls on a holiday or weekend, we always process early. Just keeps the employees happy.

>Catherine: > >I take it when you say you "don't observe" FMLA, >you mean that you have fewer that 25 EEs, and >hence are not covered by FMLA? Assuming that's >the case, then the remaining issue I see is that >he has a…

AJ, That sounds like something I could incorporate into management training. My email is marilynr@bishopsteering.com. I sure could use some help with this.

Several people in my office participate in a lottery pool twice a week. Everyone who chips in money receives a copy of the purchased tickets.
-
Our company has also termed several 'over 40' employees and we have a 45 day waiting period. We have a special term agreement that they must sign (written by our attorney). Haven't had any problems with it.

Balloonman: I'm pretty dizzy in my natural state - how do you think I survive in HR? Rockie:I agree with you. Our new engineering manager (from our home office in Australia) has successfully implemented this method in Sydney. He is here to 'clean…

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately in January in order to cut back my departments expenses, I only renewed 1 membership for the year, and this forum is the one I renewed. I cancelled all the rest, and SHRM was one of them.

Thanks for the advice. I feel much better knowing that someone sees this the same way I do.

We keep our time sheets separate also. I guess my question is, what info would a potential buyer need to see, and what can they legally not see (to protect our employees.)
-
I have a similar situation but with a slight twist. Our company (Australian owned) is being purchased by another company (also located in Australia.) The purchasers have requested (as part of their due diligence) to view our personnel files. Is th…

DonD - You have hit the nail on the head!!!!

If it were just a couple of people, that would be simple. Unfortunately, it's not. My only concern was that management wanted to have only one department use the time clock, not all hourly in all departments. I was hoping there might be a legal r…

Thank you for your input. I believe the approach that will be taken will be to go on short term diability. When his doctor clears him completely, then he can return to work.

We're a small (27 emp) design/manufacturing firm. HR is part of the administration dept, and I report directly to the CFO, who is also the manager of that dept.
-
You make a good point. We are a very small engineering / manufacturing firm - 32 employees total. I agree that this is something that needs to be addressed in our employee handbook.
-
Thank you everyone who responded to my question. We were able to find out that this former employee has another job.
-
No, we do not have a rehiring policy. In the 8 years that our company has been in the US (we're based in Australia) this is the first layoff we have had. We are very small - 32 employees. Also, none of the absences this former employee were di…
