earned time for part-time people

I was just wondering how others handled benefits for part-time staff.  Currently, we don't offer earned time off, or any other vacation time for people working less than 25 hours per week. Does anyone else offer earned time or vacation time for part-time staff?  If someone is a long term employee, it seems like it would be an appreciated benefit--and it may attract people for an open part-time position.

  • Our vacation accrual for hourly employees is based on average hours worked in the prior year.  We offer insurance benefits and vacation time to all employees and the vast majority work around 25/week.
  • I don't have any part time employees righ now, but in the past they were offered benefits if they worked 30 hours. Vacation/sick time was pro-rated based on the hours they worked.  Our FT employees get 2 weeks (80 hours) vacation until they have been here 5 years. If the PT employee work 30 hours a week then they would get 60 hours vacation instead of 80 hours.
  • We do offer paid vacations, paid holidays, bereavement, and jury duty pay to our part-time employees. The maximum vacation allotment is 2 weeks. And the hours paid are based on the employee's normal scheduled hours. If a holiday falls on a day they would not normally work, then they don't receive the holiday pay.
  • Our cutoff for PTO and benefits is 30 hours per week. Someone working 30 hours per week would still get two weeks vacation, but it would only work out to 60 hours rather than the 80 that  40 hour per week employee is earning.

At this point, we only have one employee working less than 30 hours per week.  He works 7 hours per week and earns no PTO/benefits
