Italy publishes every citizens' earnings

Hey, The Treasury Department in Italy posted all its citizens declared earnings and tax contributions on the Web. It was up for 24 hours until the privacy commissioner took it off--and after the media got on the case and the site crashed when everybody looked up their neighbors (and celebrities) info and if they were behind on their taxes.

According to the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7376608.stm), this was a parting shot from the outgoing administration.

The Deputy Economic Minister said he didn't know what the fuss was about, "I can't understand what the problem is ...  we delayed publication until after the elections."

Can you imagine the commotion if that happened here--and the headaches we would have.
