Take home vehicles

I know David S is out there, but don't know if there are others working for a municipality. .
1) do you have a take home vehicle policy for your police officers
2) have you found it to be expensive
3) do you have restrictions ie can not live out of city or county

any other thoughts/experiences. .?

I work for a small municipality. We're unincorporated, so County provides sheriff, but we have a few ees that take home vehicles...fire chief, town manager, etc. Because it's so few, the added expense is minimal.

Our policy states that town-owned vehicles are not to be driven to an out-of-town residence.

Our policy provides that the Officer must live within 5 miles of the City to be assigned a take home vehicle. I don't think it has been expensive for us because very few officers are assigned take home vehicles.
