Taking my mother to Lincoln City soon to reward her for dog
sitting everytime we go out of town. She will be glued to a seat in the casino, but would like to find a decent seafood restaurant in the area to get her to leave the casino even for a couple of hours:help:. Do you have any recommendations? I don't care for Mo's but would welcome any suggestions.

As Paul has not responded, let me jump in as a fellow Oregonian. We always liked Pier 101. I haven't been there in awhile, so I can't vouch for it still being good; but it used to be the place we went to whenever we were in Lincoln City.

Sorry guys. I've been dealing with a staff situation since late last night and didn't see this post until now.

I dont know Lincoln City well. Ive stayed there a couple times and also passed through but I wouldnt say I am an expert on whats available. I like Thai and we tried the Andaman Thai Cuisine and it was wonderful. The owner cooks all the food herself so dont go there if you are in a hurry but she is extremely gracious and her story is very interesting.

Another treat is the is the Hawk Creek Cafe in Neskowin. Neskowin is just a few miles north of Lincoln City. The Hawk Creek Cafe has a wonderful homey feel, terrific food and service. Its very popular so expect a wait. Neskowin has a beautiful beach so make sure you walk out to Proposal Rock while you are there.

Its funny you mention Mo's. Its the topic of much discussion here in Cannon Beach. Visitors tend to LOVE Mo's and make it a "must stop" on their visits to the beach. Locals scratch their heads in wonder if not outright disgust.

I was thoroughly disappointed the couple of times I was there. The line was too long to get seated and I was not impressed with the quality of food. I have had better chowder anywhere. I do know people who think it is the best restaurant at the beach. Not me.

Last time we were in Lincoln City, we didn't hit many of the restaurants. We rented a condo so cooked our meals there part of time, and took day trips so ate a lot of our meals at stops on the road somewhere. The only meals I can remember having in Lincoln City itself were one breakfast at Pig & Pancake, one dinner at a Mexican restaurant my stepdaughter wanted to go to, and one dinner at a pizza place. I don't even remember the names of either of those places, so apparently I wasn't too impressed!

By the way, plynnl, are you going to Depoe Bay while you are there? Its only 20 minutes from Lincoln City. You can watch whales dive and surface right from Hwy 101. Its truly a remarkable sight!

Yes, I am sure we will hit Depot Bay for the whales. I have to get as much in as I can for my mother's "vacaction". We are also hitting the wineries near Dundee.

Probably the biggest running event here is the "Hood To Coast" which takes you from Mount Hood through Portland to Seaside. Teams will take turn running the legs all day and night until they reach the beach.

Once they get to the beach its a big party. Teams decorate their vehicles with painted slogans. Its a good time. I haven't run in it. I figure "I am already here on the coast. Why bother?"

Hood to Coast is a pretty big event with thousands of people participating. Business get involved and send teams. If you aren't up to running, it is acceptable to walk.
I haven't seen the end result at the coast, but as Paul says, it is party-time.

Hood to Coast is pretty funky... It's nearly 200 miles, and it's a relay - with each team having up to 12 runners. Registration closes pretty quickly - I think they hit their team limit on the first day you can sign up. I'd like to try it sometime, but since I have about a hundred other races also on that list, it is statistically unlikely to happen.

Pants? That is even [B]more[/B] statistically unlikely.

The biggest difficulty I would have is that the relay is split up into 36 legs, with each of the 12 runners taking 3 legs in rotation. It would be easier for me to do 15 miles at once, for example, than to do 5 miles three times, with an hour and a half in between.

The biggest difficulty for me is the running part. Even the walking part is an issue. Plus the signing up part.

Now if I could ride my longboard...
