I think it might be too late for this year, but next year I would like to do a 60's or 70's theme for EE Appreciation Day. In the past we have all gone out for a meal, had food catered in, had someone come and help us figure out our personality types (colors), done team-bulding games, and watched a movie together (served them popcorn, candy and pop).
I can think of ways to decorate, music to play, and even have a few ideas for food (fondue) that follow my theme, but am brain dead when it comes to any possible activities. Can anyone think of a few possible activies for 1-3 hours that are very low budget? We have 14 employees (13 female, 1 male, average age is 50's).

You could add mirrors, bells, streamers, those tennis balls that go on the legs. Maybe some psychadelic stickers, etc, etc. More creative types than I can embellish.
Get all your employees together and announce:
Even though all of you knew exactly what pay and benefits you would be recieving when you took your jobs, some of you feel you deserve more. Even though we have been faithfully paying you what we promised and providing the benefits we offered you when hired, not all of you have been giving us a fair days work in return.
Suprisingly, its these same employees who often demand more benefits, encouragment, and perks. So, I have designated today as "Employee Appreciation Day".
So, employees, I would greatly APPRECIATE it if you would get back to work and do the job you agreed to do when you were hired.

Actually, I do like your idea. The only trouble is that one of the ones I would have to be pointing my finger at is me. I tend to take my duties as morale builder a little too seriously (ie talking to other employees).
However, perhaps instead of EE Appreciation Day, we could call it ER Appreciation Day and ask all the employees to bring the managers gifts and make long speeches about all we have done for them. Hmmm. That would certainly get them back to work quicker!

My suggestion would be a nice quiet event with a lot of soft pillows and possibly a calm story read by your CEO.
