• Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?
• You trying to scare me into not coming out for a visit in 3 weeks?

Last year, my first visit to Phoenix, I got off the plane at 8:00 Phoenix time - it was already dark. It was 105 degrees at night! Never experienced that before. When my son-in-law asked how I liked Phoenix, I replied "nice place to visit, but don't expect me to move next door to you very soon." I think he was relieved.
• Hey, Ritzy. You're actually making Alabama weather start to sound GOOD!
• Puss: Today the Weather Person said to expect 111 degrees. That means the thermometer will read 117-118. Don't ask me why. I guess it's a cheap thermometer. Tomorrow is supposed to be a tad warmer.

Raytoot: I'll see what I can do to keep this warmth and sunshine for your visit. If you are real good, I might throw in a monsoon. Those are always fun. Hint: Don't drive in a monsoon. You might end up in a flash flood or a microburst.

DeerDon: Was that remark similar to, "Do you want some thumb tacks for the black crepe you are hanging?"

Okay, okay, its hot. Thats what we put up with for 4 months. Now the other 8 months....are gorgeous.
• I got caught in a monsoon rain storm last year driving back from Sedona. I think it was I17 or 75? Driving along about 5mph following the taillights in front. Much worse than anything I've seen in NY.

My daughter has seen 119 outside her kitchen window - in the shade.
• the humidity is the key and I think I've heard people move to AZ because of the relatively low humidity because of sinus problems. In MS, it is not at all uncommon for the temp to reach 105 and the humidy to be exactly the same figure. Talk about sweat pouring off. Highway crews are pouring asphalt in bib overalls with a temp of 98 and a humidy of 96. You can lose 13 pounds sitting under a tree drinking a beer. So, quit whining about the AZ temp. It ain't so bad. Wait till you experience Arkansas, MS, AL, TN, GA temp/humidity.
• Yep. As they say, it's a dry heat. Wasn't whining, just pointing out to the Forum folks (ooops almost wrote F Folks x:D )what life is like in AZ in August.

My husband is an Arkie, might get the chance to see AK. While I'm there might hop over to MS and check out your bottle tree.
• My - have a busy morning and look at what's going on - my state is being alternately cursed, then lauded!!

I've lived here for 35 years. Moved with my folks from the Chicago area. Only thing I really missed was ice skating - replaced that with swimming. From my teen years of basking in the sun, I will probably wrinkle up like a prune as the years go by.

We had a day last week where it only hit 99, but the humidity was almost 70 percent - it was miserable. That's due to the monsoons Ray A and Ritanz are talking about. They're lovely and dangerous - especially when the winds pick up and knock over one of the few shade trees surrounding our parking lot at work.

About six more weeks, and we'll be into our 8 wonderful months.

P.S. I read something very similar once except the state was Minnesota, and the subject was snow. Hmmmm....
• LAST EDITED ON 08-07-03 AT 08:13AM (CST)[p]Don't forget Kentucky.........the humidity is terrible most of time. For some reason we have had a much cooler summer than usual. I guess the rain (down pours) 4 or 5 times a week has something to do with that.

Hey, don't forget South Carolina. Walked out this morning and felt like I was inhaling steam!
