What is your cooking specialty? We already know Don D's is fried turkey. (There are a million jokes here, but I won't go there!) You have to be able to cook it though.

Mine is Steak Diane, Spinach Madeline (spinach with lots of stuff in it including hot pepper cheese) and English Trifle (Fancy, smancy strawberry short cake).

Okay, you Emerile Lagasses, what are you cooking out there?

I presume you're not asking about mundane items like turkey meatloaf? Cause I fix a mean one of those. But for very special occasions (like wedding anniversaries) I have been known to prepare Beef Wellington and Oysters Rockefeller. And now I'm starting off the week hungry. x:9

I was afraid to be the first to mention ramen noodles, so I'm glad someone else did. I prefer mine, though, drained and prepared with a special tomato sauce (secret recipe) and covered with Parmesan cheese -- served with a thick slice of garlic bread.

I do the absolute best fried oysters in the world, hands down; a whole series of knocked-out famous stuffed porkchops and don't share my deceased grandmother's 100 year old baked-beans recipe with anyone (hardly). (Theresa, can you UPS a PBJ sandwich? I'll pay).

Spent the weekend in Mexico, came home with shrimp, oysters, clams, flounder, mahi mahi, scallops and sea bass. Sure could use that oyster recipe - unless of course it's a family secret!

Hmmm, I cook and I bake, and I can my own produce, etc. I had a local lawyer buy a jar of my home canned salsa last year for $10 a pint, wish I'm made about 100 more of them.

That said, I think I'm most "famous" for my cookies. I use them as rewards, catalysts, good old fashioned bribes. "Could you just do this for me, pretty pretty please? I'll send you cookies." This technique works especially well on computer tech people who appear to be extremely bright with technology but not so good with something as simple as an oven and kitchen science. LOL

I bake and decorate cakes as an "on the side" business. Stay pretty busy on the weekends. Don't cook anything really fancy, but two of my family's favorites that I fix are curried chicken salad and homemade pimento cheese.

Just yesterday I fixed fried rainbow trout on the grill along with some huge t-bone steaks and fresh corn-on-the-cob. I'm also good at stuffed mushrooms and any other fresh water fish I can catch! x:7

My favorite "comfort food" is loose-meat sandwiches. (think sloppy joe without the sloppy)

My son is in love with what he calls, "World Famous Tacos". They're even better the second day around.

Chinese - it's such a pain it's easier to eat out.
Mexican - some that will knock your socks off.
Italian - put up a huge pot of sauce at least once a month.

Glad it is almost lunch time for me!

I am world famous (also with family/friends) for my buttermilk pancakes, in fact 28 yr old son called and came by on Sat morning to get some - guess they always need Mom's confort food.

Holidays I am the designated cook for dressing (cornbread that is, we are in the south) - an old family recipe handed down from grandmother.

OK OK..this was OBVIOUSLY the wrong thread for a preganant lady to read..you guys have me craving about 10 different things at once!

My speciality is pork chops. I make great applesauce porkchops with cherry, nutmeg and cinnamon.
On quick days I whip up a batch of fried porkcops with a special lemon/bourbon batter my mother and her mother have used.
And on those crock pot days, I am known for my porkchops, with mushroom, onion, and soy sauce gravy.

And my family says I make the best rice krispies in TX..not too mushy nor too krispy!

The one thing I'm famous for is Fajitas! My family loves them, we fill up on them until we can't even walk straight. Chicken marinated just right, just the right amount of additions, (peppers, onions, etc . . . big chunks, not little) . . . sour cream, refried beans, mmmmmmm! =P~

These are my favorites to cook and eat (and eat and eat and eat): Chicken enchiladas with salsa verde; penne with fresh tomatoes and basil in an herb cream cheese sauce; spinach lasagna; Thai noodles with cilantro and grilled chicken. And having grown up in Galveston and lived half my life on fried seafood, I would like to compete with Don for the fried oyster crown.

I love the idea of an HR Hero Cookbook. Maybe it could be a fundraiser to support the Old HR Folks Home.

You realize this book won't just fly off the shelves, don't you? I'm guessing that, considering the "neutral" nature of our profession, people will be expecting all the recipes to be something like oatmeal, cornflakes with milk, American cheese sandwich on white bread (with mayonnaise)... x;-)
