Keep Drivers On The Clock While Getting Their D.O.T Physcials Updated?

Does anyone know if we are required to keep drivers on the clock while they renew their D.O.T. physical cards? We require the drivers to have a current CDL license and the D.O.T requires CDL license holders to have a valid physical card. Thanks!
