Paid Time Off Calculations?

Our exempt employees currently accrue PTO hours based on FT (30+ hrs) or PT (20 - 30 hrs) employment.  PT accrue at 1/2 the rate of FT.

So, question - how do you calculate your PTO?  We have an employee who's looking at going to a 4 day/32 hr week.  He should receive more than PT, but not as much as FT.  Do you calculate by days worked?

Any help is appreciated.

Also - what about holiday pay??

Thanks!

It doesn't sound like your existing system actually accrues PTO on a true pro-rata basis.  If FT works 30 and PT works 20 but PT gets 1/2 FT, then PT is working 2/3rds but getting only 1/2 the benefit.  If that's so, why worry about the small difference between 30 and 32 hours?  Additionally, if 30 is FT, and this person will work 32, why are they between a FT and PT accrual rate?

  • Agree with TXHR - If FT is 30+ hrs this individual should accrue at FT rate.

Our PTO accrual is for FT only (30+ hrs). PT employess do not receive this benefit.  Holiday pay: FT (30+ hrs) receive full days pay. PT employees holiday pay is based on hours worked in a normal day.  If a PT employee normally works 5 hrs per day they would receive 5 hrs holiday pay.
