Contractor vs. Employee

A staffing service company says they are the 'independent contractor' providing me (a business) with a 'contract employee'. My research is finding only "independent contractors" vs. employees. Is a 'contract employee' the same as an 'independent contractor'?

 Thank you!

  • An independent contractor is self employed. A temp (or contingent worker) is hired through a staffing service. A contract employee is "hired" by contract to do a job. Sometimes the contract is negotiated by an outside firm. Leased employees work for a company that, for a fee, provides temporary or permanent employees and is responsible for their wages and benefits. It sounds like you have either aa contract employee whose contract was negotiated by an outside firm or a leased employee.
