Bonus Program

We have a bonus or variable pay program for all employees based on a set of metrics developed for each employee. I am curious to know what others have with regards to a bonus pay program. Do you have certain criteria for each employee or is it a company-wide initiative?

Ours are company wide initiatives. Usually they only come after a "liquidity event". We are a real estate/property management company. The owners believe that every employee contributes to make the company a success ...down to the housekeepers and/or summer college intern.
We have paid out two bonuses in the last 3 years. The first, every employee got a month's pay. The second, the employees were grouped by their involvement in the project. A few key employees got specific $ amounts. Everyone else shared a pot. There were 5 levels. Everyone at the same level got the same amount regardless of seniority, salary, etc. The top four management people got together to confirm who was in each level. The reason we split it by level was that there were some employees that deserved more because they had participated in the project from the beginning. Others came in at the end here and there. Basically it was a reward for company performance based on actual individual performance.
Hello,
We are a federal contractor and we have a company wide performance policy for bonuses for our employees. There are some criteria to receive a bonus of 50% of your annual salary such as being published, receiving a patent or bringing in a contract for business. We have some others such as going above and beyond your duties, customer letters of accommodation from our customers. We have to have documentation because we are audited by DCAA (The Defense Contracts Accounting Agency). Bonuses cam be as little as $350.00 on up to 50% of your annual salary based on the policy and where your contribution falls. The amounts are determined by the CEO.
