Proposed new overtime rules

The DOL has released proposed new rules for overtime. I think the headline is that the salary threshold for an employee to be exempt under the FLSA is likely to rise from $455 a week ($23,660 a year) to an estimated $970 a week ($50,440 a year).

What do you think? Is that too high? Or is this change long overdue (the last time the threshold was revised was 2004)?

Is this just a matter of bookkeeping for your company or would this type of change in overtime mean a serious look at schedules and rosters?

Here is a summary of what we know so far about the proposed rules DOL’s proposed rules to swell ranks of overtime-eligible employees.
