Record Retention Polices

Does anyone have a well written, comprehensive, employee records retention policy that they would like to share. I am specifically looking for a grid to summarize all the varous types of records, the specific retention periods, and the code references if possible.

I don't know what state you are in, but here in FL the state publishes just what you are looking for. .we are a municipality so that may make a difference b/c we have to keep everything.

Our state DOL publishes that sort of thing on their website, and I assume the federal DOL publishes the federal retention rules also. Some of the retention periods are going to vary, depending on what state and even what industry you are in.

If you are a member of SHRM you can do a search for "Personnel Files Record Retention" and will find a lot of information.
