Job Descriptions

Am getting ready to start a giant job description review process. Would like to put something in them to address the requirement for on time reporting to work and regular attendance. Does anyone have wording that would work for us? Would you put it in the summary?

  • This came from elsewhere and someone else on this board, but I really like it. Being at work on time and maintaining good attendance is a condition of employment and is and essential function of your job.
  • We also include the following:

Each employee is expected to be punctual and keep absences to a minimum. Regular attendance is essential for any business to operate efficiently. Attendance and punctuality are good measures of your interest in your job, and will impact your performance appraisal. Your attendance record also helps you to establish a good working reputation and adds to your opportunity for advancement.

  • At one place of employment, we developed a set of "Basic Job Requirements" which applied to all positions. This was in addition to the specific job description. It included items such as attendance, punctuality, maintaining a clean workspace, etc. - all the things that are basically related to "common sense" but are important to identify. By developing this as an addendum to the job descriptions, we didn't have to include those basics on every job description. It seemed to work well! Just thought I'd pass along to you.
  • We use this in all of our JD's under Minimum Requirements:

    Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

And then add under Distinguishing Characteristics:

Must demonstrate commitment, dependability and respect for other employees with regular attendance, punctuality and adherence to agreed-upon schedule of availability.
