hourly salary reduction

I have been doing some research can't seem to find a clear answer. We have an employee that was hired at a higher salary than most at this starting position, due to her "experience" the former HR did not check referances. Needless to say she is not producing according to her "experience" can we the employer reduce her salary to what we normally start these positions at?

You can reduce pay. The law states you must give 7 days notice in writing. I would make certain you have complete documentation. Has the employee been warned performance is not up to standards and is it in writing that if performance does not improve then he/she will be paid on a different pay scale.

The law varies by state. In Missouri, the notice is 30 days, I believe.
