Disaster planning

Earlier this week, the east coast got hit by an earthquake and now hurricane Irene is coming. Weather-wise, it has been a dangerous and sometimes strange (tornadoes in Massachusetts and floods in places that have never flooded before) year.

We have colleagues in a coastal Connecticut town, and today, they are reviewing their own disaster plan.

Do you have a disaster/crisis-management plan? Do you review it regularly?

If you want to review your plan or you need to make one, check out our latest (free!) white paper "Preparing for Natural Disasters and Other Bad Stuff."

 • As a bank, we are required to have a disaster recovery plan. Although some of our departments already have their own plans, we worked for several years to put together a comprehensive plan that would cover the entire organization. We finally decided that the best thing would be to hire an outside firm that has a lot of disaster-planning experience to put together a comprehensive plan for us, and it is being finalized right now. I believe that we will perform an annual review of the plan once it is in place.
