We have been using E-Verify in our Arizona location since the state mandated it and we've also used it in our Kansas location since we do participate in some government contracts. With regard to what is happening with recent legislation, am I supposed to be using it now or not?

E-Verify for federal contractors does not go into effect until 5/21/09. At that time (maybe) it will be necessary for federal contractors to verify the employees in their workforce who come into direct contact with the specific federal contract. You also have the option to verify your entire workforce which is what we will be doing (maybe).

You should still verify new hires through E-Verify.

Yep. Looks like that just happened.

My interpretation is the program itself was extended to September 30, 2009 but federal contractors are still required to start verifying their workforce on May 21, 2009. There was some talk about doing away with the whole E-Verify program but looks like that won't happen now.

Haven't you heard, they're not using barcodes anymore. They're going for eye recognition just like in the movie Minority Report. Oh, and sun glasses will be banned by the year 2014.

RFIDs are the little chips that carry item-specific info... Like the ones imbedded in the price tag on a pair of Nikes, or in a CD, etc. They are so small, they are virtually unnoticeable... that's why it's only a matter of time before several are imbedded somehow, someway, in each of us. A jammer either protects the RFID from being read correctly by sending out false info, or it just erases the RFID.

I read 1984 when I was about 14, scared the **** out of me. My beef these days is traffic cameras. Getting a ticket in the mail is no more fun that being stopped on the side of the road. 'Course, I really shouldn't have turned right on red when it was posted not to.
