Don't know which is correct or why Don, but here on the North Coast we pronounce them "brahts", short for bratwurst if that's what you're referring to. Are you tailgating this weekend?
I actually 'tailgated' on a church pew on my back porch with a chiminea full of oak branches and a smoker full of Brats, ribs and sausage. The game was a total bore; but the food was great.
Being a native Ohioian, I too pronounce it like "Brahts." When I hear 'brats' (as spelled) I think of unruly children. Now if you're using an German or Serbian accent, roll the 'r' and say 'bddahtz.'
Well now, in Germany Bratwurst is pronounced "Bratvursssht" They turn ALL w's into a "v" - If you are there and there is a commerical for a BMW, they say "BMV" see? And a "vacuum" is a "wacuum" by the time they get done with it. scorpio
