OK Quarters

Joannie:
I bought a couple rolls of the new Oklahoma State quaters today for my boys. I seem to recall the state bird on the coin is a scissor tail (something?) but I can't recall the rest. Will you please enlighten me on the missing part?

  • It features the scissortail flycatcher in the center of the coin flying above a field of Indian blanket wildflowers. The design also has "Oklahoma" centered on top with 1907 just below it. So now everyone in the world will think Oklahoma is noted for birds and flowers. And the sad part is, the people of the state selected this design. No oil wells, not pioneers, no Native Americans, just birds and flowers. Go figure.
