Q is approaching 2500 posts and Paul is approaching 3000. We should throw a party for them. Interestingly I think both have been here longer than I have, at least Paul has.
I am sure Paul has, but I don't know about Q. Clearly your MD keeps you hopping on the keyboard. You have 5 times the amount of posts that I have, and I joined around 2002. Of course, I also left for awhile before those that may not be named were kicked off, but I don't think I was gone long enough to really make up 5 times difference.
I joined about this time in 2003, I came on board right after the flap over the Confederate Flag that created a huge lovefest. Raise your hand if you remember that.
Looking in the archives, it looks like Q joined shortly after I did, the earliest post of hers I found was in June of 2003.
When I first came here, ANYBODY could post. You didnt even need a MLS subscription. In some ways, that was kind of fun. Lots of participation. Every once in awhile someone would post something like:
"Um, there is like this sitchooation where one of our employees is like barely late just once in awhile and for usually relly good reesons. But the boss is really rude and says that "all employees must be on time or else!"
That's illegal, right? Can the employee sue or something? Thanks!"
Of course we were always very eager to provide them some direction.
It was fun picking on trolls back then. Once a poster called me a naughty name spelling it out without using the typical symbols. Er... was that you Paul?
I don't think that was the only post on the matter as I didn't see my post and I remember replying to Don about it. Checking out that post makes it easy to see Don's eloquence. He could be really witty and eloquent when he wanted to be (but cleverness can be rough when it is turned against you rather than shared with you). There were so many wonderful contributors too that had a lot to offer. For awhile the forum was growing by leaps and bounds.
After M Lee Smith decided only subscribers could participate many frequent posters were forced out. Unfortunately, about that same time some of the posters' tone began to change and this forum was an unpleasant place to come for awhile. I only dropped by when I was desperate for some help for a long time. Then one day I heard that Don had been asked to leave the forum and many had left with him in protest. It is not nearly as busy, and certainly more people add more interest. But I am glad to come to a place where I feel comfortable and not worried that if I ask a question I will be told I am stupid for asking. Also, more and more people are joining again and it is gradually becoming more and more lively and interesting.
Wow - I didn't join the forum until late 2005, but I'm glad I missed that thread! When I first joined, I didn't post for a LONG time, except when absolutely necessary....it was just WAY too hostile. You felt as though you couldn't express yourself for fear of being torn to shreds by "the others."
Good one. I'm sure we could come up with MANY haikus regarding people of that "era" but that would be immature....and we are WAY above that, right guys?
Joannie, you just couldn't resist doing one little haiku of your own, huh? You're such an enabler x;-) or maybe instigator would be more appropriate???
He gets more work done because it is harder and harder for him to get a rise out of the forumites. He is forced to spend time working instead of here riling people up.
Either that or it is just that we are more boring. x:D
I have no problem acknowledging longevity or boredom or whatever motivates us, but I have a REAL milestone: I met NaeNae this week!!! We were both at a SHRM Legislative Conference at our state captiol (Topeka, so you don't have to check the map). Just as on the forum, Nae is a classy intelligent person and it was great meeting someone from our blogging home. She of course may now quit because of meeting me, but it was a positive experience for me!!
Glad you are back Steaks. I have been waiting for you to appear so I could tell people about meeting you. Looks like you got online before I could do so.
In case you all are wondering, Steaks was very professional and has a good reputation among other SHRM members. I can also tell you he is VERY tall! At least, from my 5'1" vantage point, he SEEMED very tall. So there you have it. He is tall in both stature and reputation.
BTW Steaks, I did the dome tour (all 296 steps) and came back ready to sit for awhile in the Senate chamber. Just about everyone had left though. It's amazing how many people have other urgent things to do when it comes to watching our politicians in action. I found I had something to do too. x;-)

The MD certainly helps.
Does this count as a hand raised?
I had completely forgotten how er...someone got all bent out of shape about the confederate flag and what it means. You're right. It was huge.

Just my 2 cents.
This was the first (I believe) time Don went after me. I can't believe how much better I wrote then!
The confederate flag is a hot topic with me, as you could tell if you read through my posts.
Man I'm glad times have changed!
