Just put 55 W-2's in the mail to former employees. I can't help but wonder how many of them will come back home after the Post Office stamps them not deliverable at this address, addressee moved with no forwarding address, forwarding address information expired, etc...
Of course this number will not be as large as the number of calls/emails we will get from current ee's in April saying we never gave them their W-2. Some will be kind enough to admit they received it but have misplaced it.

This year, my assistant had all 1,500 them printed and enveloped two weeks ago. We sent W-2's directly to current employees (along with sign sheets for receipt) at their work locations. They are pleased as punch to have them early [i]and[/i] not have to wait for the mail.
The rest of the W-2's are still sitting in the office, and we will mail them next week. My assistant gets calls daily from former employees stating "I changed my address, is it too late for my W-2?" She lets them pick up the W-2 or give us a new mailing address for next week.
Last year, W-2's with bad addresses were being returned to us as undeliverable as late as early May, believe it or not. We refused to accept requests for duplicates until after 3/1 because employees just did not want to wait for the mail. It gets pretty insane. She even changes her voice mail message with W-2 instructions, to help manage all the calls.
My assistant is one smart cookie and has saved herself a ton of stress (and annoying calls) by having them done early this year and just sitting on them.
Of course, a lot of OTHER things are much more difficult when all your employees live on grounds.

I cannot imagine having employees living on site. I do NOT want to know what their home lives are like, although I usually learn about it anyway. It must be hard helping them keep their personal lives separate from their professional lives.
Ray, maybe just this one more time, I will take care of your MD habit. I'll replace the contents of your water cooler bottle with the nuclear yellow/green stuff. That should last you a day or two...
