Have you been good this year?

Will you get what you want for Christmas? Will you have to buy it yourself? What would be the best gift of all for you? What was the worst gift you ever received?

My worst gift was a vacuum, like I really want that to cheer me up and make me happy!
The best gift ever would be a larger house but I'd have to buy that myself....so I'll take a maid.

• I wish for a peaceful Christmas. At home, and everywhere else. I can't buy that, so I intend to make it happen wherever I can.

Best gift... Hmmmm... That is a great question. I have no idea, nothing immediately comes to mind. Worst gifts are not coming to mind either. Must be early onset Alzheimers. Dementia runs in the family.

I can remember a few best and a few worst Christmasses but they had nothing to do with the gifts and had everything to do with the people surrounding me.

hrdilemma, I bought myself a vacuum for my birthday this year. I love it! The pink Dyson. That thing really sucks. (As a vacuum should!) Pink because a) it was cute, and b) for every sale, Dyson donated $ to breast cancer research.
• Every year I ask for a red Corvette. Haven't gotten it yet. But, my wife usually does get me the realistic things I ask for. Don't remember any worst gifts.
• Hubby and I are going to see the TransSiberian Orchestra for Christmas.
• I as well am going to see TSO on the 29th here and we are really looking forward to it. Everyone who has ever gone said it was awesome and the loved it. The only complaint I've ever heard was it was loud.

It's a concert, you expect it to be loud!

Did I tell you it was LOUD! But worth it..
• We're going on the 22nd. I'll let you know how it was.
• Best gift was when I was like 10 years old I received an electric train that I had really hoped for but knew my parents couldn't afford. My sister worked at the drugstore, which back then also sold toys. Her boss, the pharmicists actually gave me the train!!! Still remember that so clearly even though it was over 45 years ago.
Worst gift wasn't mine but my wife's. My mother, God bless her, would usually just give socks and underwear to the adult children and spouses then simple toys for the grandkids. One year after we had been married for maybe three years, my wife opened her gift and it was underwear that was as big as a tent; well maybe not a tent, but about 30 sizes too big!! She held them up and everyone just stifled their laughter because clearly Mom did not intend it for a joke. She said "oh I must have gotten the wrong size so you can take them back if you want to." My wife kept them for many years and they were always part of our annual Christmas gathering jokes. I don't think Mom ever got it.....
Two things I've learned about Christmas gifts:
1. Tell my wife and sons specifically what I want and ask them to not getting anything else.
2. Either ask my wife to specifically tell me what she wants or tell her to buy it herself and wrap it from me.
Both lessons have saved numerous gift disappointments. Maybe not too romantic or mysterious, but safe.
Sorry for the long post.

• Best gift I ever got was my daughter. She was born on December 22nd, and came home from the hospital on December 24th (1973). The hospital had a huge stocking to put her in, and we still have it (and Santa still leaves things in it).

The worst present I ever got was from my first husband. It was a knit pantsuit. I am very conservative and this looked like something I would buy at Fredericks of Hollywood and then go out and walk the street in, if you know what I mean. I forced myself to wear it twice for him, and that was it.

I let my hubby (married 30 years now) know what I want and he always does his best. Sometimes it is not quite what I had in mind, and sometimes it is even better. I like the mystery of not knowing. My children do a good job of buying me great gifts too.

If you ask me, the best part of Christmas is giving, not receiving, gifts. I am at a point in my life where I can pretty much provide anything I truly want for myself. The happiness on my loved ones faces when they open their gifts is what I truly value most.

Ho! Ho! Ho!
