Since I am not going to have any family around this year, I have decided to do a little something different for Thanksgiving - instead of having a Thanksgiving meal, I am making my famous pumpkin muffins and I'm delivering them to local fire stations and police stations. I am thankful they are there, and while I am fortunate enough to have a business that is closed on Thursday, their jobs never stop.
It's actually kind of nice to not have to worry about how I'm spending Thanksgiving! Not to mention, the cleanup is going to be MUCH easier.
Need Coffee, you are to be commended and I think that is a wonderful way to spend Thanksgiving whether you have family or not with you. I am the only girl and had 7 brothers, now six are still living, but they are in the deer woods and could care less about a big dinner, they would prefer to stay in the woods and do all that male bonding stuff so we quit cooking the big thing several years ago and the girls go out to eat and shop. If we were closer I'd love to be a part of your Thanksgiving day adventure!
For 15 years, members of the local Moose & Elks Lodges have gotten together and cooked a free Thanksgiving dinner for the community. We open the lodge dining room from noon until 2pm for anyone who wants somewhere to go for Thanksgiving and we deliver meals to ee's at local businesses who have to work on Thanksgiving and to individuals who can't get out or don't care to get out. Last year we served over 500 people in the dining room and delivered 1100 meals. We expect to exceed that number this year.
I'm just proud to know you Joannie, even though I really don't. Maybe a community effort like yours could work in our little town too!! Worth considering.
