I'm going also. I just presumed it would be business casual. Maybe one of the forum moderators will step in here and let us know. Ragee, Celeste, Tkessler?????? How about some guidance here.
Paul said last year he wore a sequinned showgirl headdress and strappy sequinned heels. They clashed with his khakis and golf shirt, though.
I'd bet business casual is appropriate. Jeans would probably be too casual, except maybe on the last day, if it's a half-day. I didn't look at the agenda, since I'm not going.
Any of you forumites who attend need to wear a pink carnation so you can find each other. Please gather for a group photo and post it on the Forum. I want to see what real HR people who actually attend seminars for their own professional development actually look like. Wish I could go! x:-(
If its business-casual then you should wear a tie with your hawaian shirt and your Sunday sandals.
Ok, seriously, my guess would be that Vegas is more on the informal side but you still dont want to look like you are on your way to the golf course or the slots. You should look professional. Image is important.
I would also keep the weather in mind.
All that said, I have never been to Vegas so I am just making this up.
Business casual is the norm, but you won't get kicked out of the meetings for wearing jeans. If you're a Forumite, please find me (probably at the registration table both mornings) so I can say hello. As far as networking with other Forumites is concerned, the red carnations may do the trick. If not, we'll figure out a way to make it easier for you to meet one another.
We could try not wearing pants. That would make it easy to spot everyone. After each session, anyone not wearing pants could head to a special meet and greet for a "forumite" break out session.
So what about the women wearing dresses who are not forumites? Wouldn't you be a bit embarrassed to approach one of them, make a rude comment, and discover they didn't have a clue as to what you were talking about?
Paul is trying to wiggle out of the blame for the no-pants phenomenon. How much you wanna bet he paid one of the quieter Forumites to spy on the seminar and take photos of the poor saps who show up pantsless? Please just share with the group later.
Maybe a bouquet of carnations should be worn, in red, blue, and yellow, to match the forum logo. It is up to the individual WHERE to wear those carnations. Take some photos and we'll all vote on most creative placement.
I'll be here in Tempe with some interesting visuals in my head. Enjoy Vegas!
Of course you said nothing scandalous, Paul. It seemed you were implying it, however. Haven't you ever had one of the "perception is reality" discussions with your employees? x:D
OK, back up to the high road now.
For the forumites who are going pantsless, please remember that the hem of your shorts must at least reach your fingertips when your arms are hanging at your sides. If you have gorilla arms, that is your problem. We probably didn't want to see your legs anyway.
No denim, no iron on patches, and no visible undergarments. You know who you are.
Don't make me start talking in Haiku again. I will, you know.
Just trying to protect some of my favorite people in the whole world from having to see some (probably) pretty frightening legs. I'll send you some pink leg warmers so you can dole them out to anyone who violates the dress code. x:D
I love Chicago - I always have a great time there!
On the other hand - and I know this makes me sound even stranger than I probably am - I have NEVER had a good time in Vegas. Or, for that matter, in New Orleans... Two cities I absolutely detest going to.
Then don't go into the casinos. Just go to some of the shows or check out the leaflets lying around. They couldn't possibly be as offensive as gambling. x;-)
I did, didn't I? The scary thing is Paul is beginning to sound like my husband. He hates casinos. His favorite line in regard to slot machines is, "I'm not putting money into anything that backs its "soap" against the wall and challenges the world."

(not like a show girl or anything, but maybe jeans) HA!
Thanks!

So, are we all in agreement? No pants? Great!

I realize I am new here- but do you have a _thing_ about wearing pants- and if so, have you tried a kilt?
;-)
Paul, here's some advice: Get a life! ;-)
Wait! Was Paul the one who said Frank was pantless in the first place? Maybe this has been going on longer than I thought!
I just thought it would be fun if all the Forumites in Vegas wore shorts. That's all.
Plus, I am not even going to Vegas.

I would expect that from Joannie but not you Q.

I'm with you on Vegas and New Orleans - lived in Vegas for a while, and that was enough to make me never want to visit there!
To be honest, I would probably feel the same way. Maybe thats why I have never gone to either of those cities.
I think the gambling would bother me.
Joannie! I can't believe you walked into that one! It must have been a case of just being too late in the day. ;-)
