Man, I've lived here for 30 years and have never seen so many schizocarps in the spring. They're sprouting everywhere. Everyday my wife tells she's been pulling more. Anyone else having this problem?
Until I opened the thread, I assumed it was about crazy fish.
I don't know what a schizocarp is either... I also do not know what the weeds in my yard are called, but the roots are tough to get out. Schizoweeds, I'll call them from now on.
Yes Irie, you have schizocarps in Ohio. They are maple tree seeds. You know, those helicopter seeds with wing attached that twirl as they fall to the ground.
Oh, those darn things. They're as bad as the acorns that the darn squirrels bury in the fall and then in the spring the yard sprouts little acorn trees everywhere.

The ethanol industry is now researching the schizocarp for possible conversion to fuel. General Mills has also shown interest for other reasons.
Ban them all!!!!
