We in smaller companies must wear more than one hat. How many of you, in addition to your traditional HR duties, also are responsible for washing dishes at work?
Oh yeah, I make coffee too. I also take care of all the environmental compliance, right now I'm writing a QA manual, I've done some engineering design work, and I have the finance dept reporting to me. That plus HR Manager for 90 employees.
Everyone, including the President, takes a turn at kitchen duty here. You must wipe down counters and tables, clean any dishes in the sink (most people clean up after themselves), and rinse out the coffee pots every day during your week of kitchen duty. Fridays you have to clean out the fridge and take home the dishtowels for washing.
In addition to HR, I do payroll, payables, billing, collection, deposits and payment posting, journal entries and financial statements. I am responsible for all assets, all purchasing, record retention, administration of our retirement plan, benefits, taxes, and the safety of our employees (not necessarily in that order). I am sure I left a few out, but you get the drift.
We have coffee meetings every month with employees and the president. Yours truly has to provide doughnuts and coffee each month and clean up afterwards. At least I get a few free doughnuts every month. x:9
Other duties not related to HR include facilites manager, telecommunications, and a Food Service operation that prepares about 200,000 meals a year. So on occasion I have not only washed dishes but also pots and pans. Fortunately, for our customers, I haven't been tasked to cook yet.

Its actually a cutting edge management style called "MBDEY" or "Management By Doing Everything Yourself".
The puck stops here.

Hey can I ask you: Your kitchen detail, is that part a 5-S culture. We are in the infant stages of 5-S and I'm just curious.
I guess that means no, we are not. x:D
