OK, I admit it. I LOVE American Idol!! Say what you will, but I'm hooked.
I heard an interesting discussion on the radio this morning about Chris Daughtry (the rocker). Last week he sang Walk the Line by Johnny Cash. The judges loved it stating that he really made the song "his own". Apparantly, the band Live already covered this song and oddly enough, Chris' version and Live's version sound almost exactly the same.
The debate is whether or not he should have mentioned that version. Fans are crying foul that he copied this version. Isn't everyone copying though? Aren't they all cover songs?
It's kinda like telling a joke. Do I have to say I heard it on Letterman last night? Don't most people assume I heard it somewhere and am now repeating it?

I watched AI last year, but last week was the first I've seen this year's edition. The only problem with Daughtry's performance was that it was presented as the first time the song had been performed in that style. We were led to believe he broke new ground, that he was being creative and doing something never done before. So instead of being a groundbreaking creative artist, he is just a singer.

I was going to add that above, but then thought Daughtry didn't say anything to correct what was said. And part of the presentation included the prerecorded parts with Barry. He must have known how it would be presented.

I thought that, too. But I have to admit, I probably would not have said anything either. Let him savor the moment. I think it will be between him and McFever!!

My assistant loves the show and watches it "religiously". Its a good show but I haven't watched much of it.

I have noticed that they always seem to have a "SCANDAL" each season that keeps the show in the news.

You start to wonder if these "controversies" are pre-planned.

Time to revive this thread again. I heard that on American Idol all the contestants sang Queen songs. I know this because my assistant was singing "We are the champions" all week.

So how is this season shaping up?

The black gospel singer was voted off, she didn't fit "the image" even though she probably had the most powerful voice. I'm picking Pickler. She makes me wish I were 25 again.

Mendisa was the best by far, but she's gone. It's now a beauty contest, as if it never was. So I still have to go with McFever. Gorgeous enough to win this thing.

The Queen thing was horrible. Everybody stunk except Pickler. I'm not sure why AI thinks a Barry Manilow and Queen night is necessary. I think a Prince night would be COOL!

I didn't think Mandisa would go so quickly. I think she fell victim to the "she's going to be fine so I'll vote for someone else tonight" syndrome. Ace or Elliott will be next. My guess is that the final 3 will be McFever, the rocker Chris and maybe, just maybe, Taylor Hicks.

Ace definitely needs to go! I'm so sick of the deer in the headlights, I'm so sexy routine! And he can't sing! Kelly started out really well but then see saw Simon pull the "this is awful" posture, she let it undermine her confidence. Chris Daughtry actually can sing when he's not screaming and bursting blood vessels in his next & head. I think bottom three will be Ace, Elliott & probably Kelly and I really, really hope Ace goes.

Yes, Kelly did very poorly and she knew it. Ace sounded the best so far, but I agree on the pony tail. Either he or Elliot will go.

McFever needs to stay as far away from Kelly as she can so as not to come off as bitch-like. If she can escape that, she'll win. Otherwise I would think that it's Kelly's to lose.
