I am headed to a spot North of Lake Tahoe for a three day weekend. Last week a bear visited our site and tore up a trash can and a cooler. So if you don't hear from me on Monday, send the Mounties!x:-)
Sam, the laptop will help him for moral support, well, from most of us, but what he really needs is a BFG for personal protection. I never go camping without one and we do not have bears in Kansas!
I was camping in New Hampshire's White Mountains a few years ago and a black bear came into our camp site while we were all getting drunk around the camp fire. That was scary :-S .
This probably won't be believed, but it's gospel. I was in Yellowstone in 69 and anybody who's been there knows the bears will eat out of your hand. I was feeding a bear cookies and ran out of cookies. I wanted one of my friends to take a snapshot, so I stood there and placed my hand on top of the bear's head, as if to pat it. She clamped down on my hand pretty hard. She could have bit off my whole hand I'm sure, but all it did was barely break the skin. I could have outrun Jesse Owens and Smarty Jones both at that moment.
We heard the bear in our site before we saw it and when we flashed the spotlight on him, I saw that he was holding a bag of Tostitos in his hand. I could clearly see the front of the bag. I wish I had a camera ready, I could have sold the photo to the chip company! $$$
That sounds suspiciously like an invitation Beags. What'cha doin' this weekend? x;-)
And by the way, everyone needs to check out Baloonman's old "Bike to Work" thread. He tried to sneak a picture of himself right by us at the bottom of it!

No BFG at the site but I was well prepared with a Yogi Bear picanic type basket to only use in emergencies.
