A Mindful of Mush Can Be Useful!

Just had something happen that's never happened to me before and it underscores the importance of trivial knowledge in everyday life.

While eating lunch I was listening to the radio and our local oldies rock station posed their trivia question: In the song, "Summer in the City" by Lovin' Spoonful, what two sound effects are present?

With a mouthful of pasta, I punched in the number and someone actually picked up to tell me I was the 9th caller!!!!! Gave the answer (correct, of course) and won four tickets to Omnimax! Almost choked on my lunch!

Guess I can die happy, now! x;-)

Cool. Now that I have sung every word and will probably be unable to get it out of my head, what is the correct answer. . . car horns and.. . ?????? This will drive me nuts. .Great song.

The two sound effects are a car horn and a jackhammer. x:-)

And an Omnimax is some sort of 360-degree high-definition theatre thing with a Nakamuri Devil-Bat Turbocharged 3000 sound system (or something like that). Have no idea what is showing over there, but whatever it is I have four tickets to it. x;-)

Hey! I could do that. That is a much-maligned and misunderstood cinema classic (at least in my opinion). Actually, I checked the website and there are a couple of things playing: Some chimp documentary with Jane Goodall and a documentary about the Corps of Discovery (the end of the Lewis and Clark Trail is in Oregon). Never said we were talking about four-star movies here, I guess. x;-)

I can't believe anyone else has seen or even remembers that movie. My favorite line: when the agent is disguised as a tomato and is sitting in on the tomatoes' campfire and exclaims "pass the ketsup."

But, oh, that anoying song in the background - "Puberty Love."

I wonder if it's now on DVD.

Just a word of caution if you have never done the IMAX thing - DON'T SIT TOO CLOSE TO THE FRONT.

One of the wonderful things about IMAX is the feeling you are right there. Went to one about the Barrier Reef [wonderful!!!] the only thing was - we all got air sick!

There was a part taken from a chopper flying over the reefs - felt like you were sitting right next to the pilot, we actually were leaning with the camera shots as they were swooping and diving along.

Never been to one that I didn't enjoy. Have fun.

Okay, who remembers "The Tingler"? It's one of my favorite "audience participation" movies.

Never saw that. Here's a horror story. I went on a first date (long time ago) with a very conservative young gent - a computer programmer. We were going to a movie but neither of us had read any reviews or knew what to pick. We decided to try "Rockie Horror Picture Show." It was rather novel for its time. We left after the wedding scene and went bowling. Not the best date I'd ever had.

I loved the Tingler! Every time I see a picture of a caterpillar, I think of that thing wrapping its little tentacles or whatever you'd call them around a backbone!

My son LOVES Spongebob Square Pants, just watched it this morning before coming in...I love Patrick & my favorite episode involves Spongebob and Patrick teaching Squidworth about IMAGINATION.

Puberty Love - man! Now I can't get that song out of my head. I watched the Killer Tomatoes & the special effects is what cracked me up - all of these Killer Tomatoes attacking folks - on their ill-disguised rolling carts.

My favorite B-movies revolve around the old Japanese Godzilla movies - remember those?

One I thought was the best, “The Day the Earth Stood Still,”wasn’t listed....is this not considered a B movie?

I have The Day the Earth Stood Still on tape - but I don't consider it a B movie -- most review guides I've seen give it 4 stars. My definition of a B movie is low production quality, cheezy special effects, etc. Something like "Plan 9 from Outer Space" with the "spaceman" being in an ape suit and a deep sea diving helmet.

(It really bothers me that I know that. Next thing I know, I'll be memorizing episode numbers of the Simpsons and looking for continuity errors). x;-)

I can't believe Beastmaster, the Night of the Living Dead and Planet of the Apes made the B-list! These are classics - not B-movies!

mwild, I always thought it was Squidward, kind of like Edward. Squidworth better fits his delusions of being upper crust, though.

We have a huge cardboard box in my back yard. My kids and I spent a very Spongebob-like day using our IMAGINATIONs in the box. (If I could figure out how to change font colors, I'd have typed that in rainbow colors) Just visualize me making a big arch with my hands while saying IMAGINATION. x:D
