Wow. As I said, my children were of the 80s. A birthdate any higher than my highschool graduation year reminds me more of what they were going through than me!
Okay, now I do feel old. Consider yourself very young when you consider the following facts:
1 - I remember watching John Glenn take off in Friendship 7 to orbit the earth 2 - I remember watching the Beatles when they appeared on the Ed Sullivan show 3 - I remember what I was doing when JFK was assassinated 4 - I remember watching Apollo 11 land on the moon.
, now I REALLY feel old. Think I'd better mosey on home and soak my tired feet.
I'm with you and Para on this one Ray..first I thought AHA! Before my time! Yeah .. then I realized it was AFTER my time I do remember Head of the Class from watching with my God kids and Alf. . that's it.. now I know how these young'ns feel when we go off on the 60' and 70's!! Do they still make Geritol?
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I actually got to go to a New Kids on the Block concert. Thought I was really cool for about a year, after that didn't want to admit that I ever liked them. Now that I am starting a family I'm glad that I saved the Strawberry Shortcake dolls (though I must admit they lost their smell in the last 20 years) I can let my daughter play with them. I also think how cool I will seem when they start having 80's dances my kids will relize that I was cool at some point in my life when they can go with the pants tucked in their socks and 3 shirts on. Or the biker shorts under short full skirts (what those aren't still in style) Anyway thanks again. Susan
My children remember all of this way better than I do. Now that I thought of it, I think my arthritis is acting up and my walker needs oiling. You young whippersnappers enjoy your memories while you can. LOL.
My mom recently shipped my Easy Bake Oven to me from Nebraska. It is around 30 years old, made of bright orange plastic. If I remember correctly, they were also available in avacado green - the same color as my parents refrigerator at the time.
My parents took it away from me after I made chocolate cake and "fed" it to my white stuffed polar bear on my grandmother's off-white sculptured carpet. Didn't get it back 'til I could take care of it like a "big girl". Hence my mom shipping it to me recently. Apparently she believes I've finally grown up. x:D
OK, so that's not 80's, but still a fun memory of my childhood.
In 1968 I was begging my brother to let me take his Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band album to school so we could play it at lunch. I was also only 11.
I don't know, Beagle. These young kids, such as Mwild, have no respect for their elders. The AF must really have gone downhill since you were in, Beag.
Well, I know AF boot camp isn't as bad as it was when I was in. Actually MWild reminds me very much of a paralegal I supervised in the JAG office. I could never get her to listen, either. x;-)
....sorry it took me so long to post - I was telling Don how mean both of you are being...xB-)
Ready for an instant Karma story? Last night I took my 9 year old son shopping after work. He was trying on sweatshirts & after finding a yellow sweatshirt, he enthusiastically exclaimed, "Mom, this sweatshirt is TIGHT!" It took me a minute, because the sweatshirt was huge to figure out what he was saying, after a minute, my little cherub 8-| and said, "Mom, it means cool, okay?" Maybe Ray and Beagle, you should send some geritol my way.
mwild, that reminds me of the first time one of my sons said, "Mom this is the bomb." I didn't know whether to duck or smile and nod.
In 1968 I had just moved to Arizona from Illinois and HATED IT! My, how things change.
In '97, I was driving with my youngest, then 14, and of course we're listening to his music. A song I know the words to comes on the radio - "Faith" previously recorded by George Michael in mid to late '80s. I'm singing along - my son is asking me how I know the song. Very condescendingly I inform him it's a remake. So he turns up the volume. Suddenly Limp Bizkit swings into the chorus, and there is a band screaming from my radio, "You gotta have faaaaaaiiith!"
Speaking of AARP... when I was in AZ recently on vacation, the guy at the car rental booth gave me senior citizen rates because I am old enough to belong to AARP.
I was actually glad to see the new monthly AARP magazine cover saying that 60 is the new 30. What a spin, I am young again with a few years to go before I hit the magic 30. :DD
Child of the '80s here too (born 1978)! I totally (yeah, totally!) forgot about my Hyper-Color T-shirt! I wore that in the 7th grade and looking back it must have been about 2 sizes too big. The way fashion changes. Girls sure don't wear their clothes loose anymore!
Did anyone else out there get stuck wearing HUGE Eye-glasses????? I get teased about my junior high-school pictures as I had a very large pair of Charcoal colored plastic framed glasses! Nothing cute about it.... Thank GOODNESS for Contact lenses...
P.B.- Do you think I would ever actually leave you guys??? To quote the great Paul of Cannon Beach... I became a "Lurker", but Im still here checking things out... making sure everyone is treating the "youngin's" all right x;-)

Just thought I should repeat myself so you could remember - it's no big deal - I have to do that for a lot of my older relatives too...x}>
When were you born, again, MWild? x;-)

I about drove off the road.
Yep - I had a similar experience with my son regarding how I could possibly know who Madonna was - geez!

But who is out here making sure those of us who may be chronologically challenged are being treated well by the "young'uns?"
