Have you ever noticed how many Forumites have stated they either sleep or run around the house "buck naked?" Wonder where that term came from? Seems like it should be "butt naked!"
A couple of years into our relationship I said 'butt naked' to my husband and he thought it was the funniest thing cuz he knew the correct term of course was 'buck naked'. That didn't make sense to me so to this day I say butt naked. He still gives me that look /:) but he's tired of correcting me and he knows it won't do any good anyways.
It is not, I repeat, NOT "buck" naked. First of all, bucks aren't naked, they're covered with fur and pointy things on their heads. The correct term is "butt naked." Case closed.
... and don't EVEN get me started about HR Hero t-shirts! (Where's the emoticon to show I'm fuming?) x;-)
I looked up the origin for buck naked and the most general concensus is that male slaves were called bucks and they were typically loaded (their word, not mine) onto the slave trade ships naked. That is going to make me thing twice about using the expression again!
