Beagle, it's on Sunday's at 10pm on NBC. Next week is the last episode however. It's worth recording if you don't stay up that late. I was impressed with Rocco last episode when he told off the three cooks that lied to him. I really like the phrase he used, "never darken this doorway again." I'm going to use that one of these days!
...and the exceptionally awful management continued right up to the whacky end. That last episode was a veritable Pu Pu Platter of workplace "DON'T's" (and by saying Pu Pu, I absolutely intend to conjure up homonyms). There was another slip and fall on the nasty kitchen floor (that's at least 4 that we've seen.... I think OSHA would call that willful disregard). But, oh don't worry - now they put down mats. But alas, the cure is as bad as the ailment - those ill fitting mats will just replace the slipping with tripping. And then there was more footage of employees sucking face while on the clock (the slippery slope to sexual harassment), and we saw a "lead" person (the Captain) "fixing" the belt of the "hot new blonde". In case we missed the inappropriateness of the conduct, he punctuated his actions with enough lewd commentary to ensure we understood he was sexualizing his "assistance" (whoops, just slid down that slippery slope). And that aforementioned hot new blonde was a painful dress code discussion and/or WC claim waiting to happen - did you see those high heels and the urbanized "red neck jeans"??? (too long, with the extra length "worn off") We also saw Rocco and Laurent decide, on a whim (or at least edited that way), to punish a waiter for making a mistake by reassigning him to wash dishes. One clear element of the intended punishment was that the employee would be the "only one who speaks English down there". Crikey, one day soon Rocco will slide into a booth of attractive people, stroke the leg of one guest as we've seen him do before, make suggestive remarks about sleeping with all of them.... only to hear them introduce themselves as investigators for the DOL, EEOC and OSHA. Or worse, plaintiff attorneys!!!! This show was like a car wreck...
The trip to the Hamptons was nice, but I don't see mangement changes coming any time soon. More likely is the continuation of the the abuse-apology cycle, cause they just don't get it!
Thanks Blanche for the recap. I missed last night's episode AGAIN! My life totally gets in the way of my reality shows.
I will miss "the Restaurant". It made me feel good about how our food service department here is run.
Yo, anybody from New York gonna step up and tell us if the Restaurant was a hyped up, dramatized anomaly or if it was a fairly accurate representation of NY eateries?
And where's my spaghetti? Its been an hour! Bada bing! What, you think youse bettah than me?
I'm going to echo Paul's request - is this the way it is in NY eateries? Do chefs come out and slurp spaghetti with the customers (meanwhile a voiceover is heard talking about how sexy food is)? Do customers 'feel up' the waiters & then provacatively lick their lips as the same waiters walk by? Do waitresses really wear high heels in fast-paced restaurants? These are just some of the questions I'm pondering way over here in Washington State.
As I'm waiting for answers though . . . xflash . . .I think I'll drive over in my SATURN SUV to the local grocery store and charge a six pack of COORS to my AMERICAN EXPRESS Account....
No, it is not a fairly accurate rendering of NY restaurants or New Yorkers. For example, that kid was a little young to a sex maniac and any place else, his parents would have been embarrassed and the staff would have lodged a complaint. Any new restaurant when it first opens has problems with service, but cruelty to staff. Bah. I think that people act up when they know they are on television (which is why some object to tvs in courtrooms). In any case, thank heavens, this place is not representative of NY. Furthermore, the reviews have not been very good.
Apparently they are going to continue the story with Rocco. At least that's what I thought I heard on the radio today. Me, I'm waiting for Survivor tonight.

If you missed the Restauraunt the first time around, they are going to re-run the series starting on Tuesday, Sept. 16th on the Bravo network.
So, if you felt left out, here is your chance.
Question: How can you increase morale in Rocco's restaurant in just one hour?
Answer: Tape the show and play it in reverse.
Should I stick with my day job?
