Wasn't what Danny Devito? A big yellow taxi? No, in the song, a big yellow taxi takes his girl away...although if it was Joni Mitchell I guess it'd be taking her boy away?? Never know!

Don,
Alas, I never made it to a Pink Floyd concert. I had to be content with tapes, then cd's. x:( Good thinking on the excuse though! I know, I know, I have tinitis (spelling?) from all those years of hearing bands play (loudly, I might add!) and that's what's causing my inability to hear lyrics correctly. Yeah, that's the ticket!
Leslie...Joni Mitchell may have done the original, but this is a 'new' song playing on the radio sung by a band (with a male lead).
HS, you're talking about listening to Pink Floyd but never hearing Joni Mitchell's version of Big Yellow Taxi? Something about those time frames just isn't jiving...
I keep telling you girls! It was the cannabis in the air. And I'm still upset that it was not "Knights in White Satin". While listening to the Doors' Riders In The Sky, I conjured up notions of Knights in satin robes riding along in the clouds. It seemed perfectly real to me at the time. Well.
Yes, you are exactly right! I was mixing my lyrics wasn't I. Phil Collins and Bill Clinton. I can't lie though.........the devil made me do it. And she wore black.
>HS, you're talking about listening to Pink Floyd but never hearing >Joni Mitchell's version of Big Yellow Taxi? Something about those >time frames just isn't jiving... >
When did the original by Joni Mitchell first come out? I listened mostly to heavy metal bands when I was younger and it is quite possible that I was listening to music after it was originally recorded. It is also quite possible that I heard the song before, but it doesn't register because she isn't someone I listened too. You have to admit, Pink Floyd is bigger than Joni Mitchell, especially to someone who listened mostly to heavy metal music as it was called back then. (is it still now?) I probably didn't start buying albums until the early 80's...my teen years.
"Big Yellow Taxi" was released on the LADIES OF THE CANYON LP in April 1970. Pink Floyd was around for quite a while - since the mid '60s and very popular in Britain - before their first biggie, DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, came out in 1973 and let them take over the US.
Anyone remember "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen? What are they saying in the line that follows: "Ma Ma Mia let him go?" It's right before the sensational guitar.
You win the cigar. I happened to buy a three CD pack of Queens Greatest Hits a couple of months back, maily to bug my bride of near 20 years. It worked very well, especially when our ten year old son came through the den sining "Fat Bottom Girls." He seems to like the songs, "Fat Bottom Girls", "Bicycle" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" the best. Have a Great Day.......

Thank you for the "45 year old" remark. I must admit that 45 was a few years back. We, our BSA Troop, and my bride too, sleep in tents again this past weekend. Wasn't bad in mid-Missouri Friday evening, but Saturday evening it was down in the low teens with a strong wind. Thank goodness for Carhart long-johns. I fear Saturday night was about to surpass the "Character Builing" aspects of Boy Scouts. Everyone, boys and adults, survived with a surprisingly low amount of complaining about the cold. Have a wonderful day.....
The only thing I can remember listening to that was even remotely like acid rock was Iron Butterfly -- and they were pretty tame. Did like the song on their Inna Gadda Da Vida album, Flowers and Beads, though. x:-) Guess I'm dating myself.
I think I remember that phrase. I also remember 'thrash metal'. The 70's and 80's were very different times than the alternative stuff there was/is in the 90's and today.
There is something interesting, what do we call today's times...the zero's?? What do you think? :-?
With the war going on and all - I thought I'd pull out a CD with American Anthems this morning. Of course, you can't help but hum along and feel proud to be an American. Boy, was I surprised when Anchors Aweigh started playing..... I checked the song listing............I always thought it was Anchors Away!
Exactly Anne! Good one! I used to think it was 'away' also and assumed it meant deploying the anchor overboard into the water, when actually it meant weighing anchor or retracting it into the ship to depart the location. x:-)

By the way, Joni wrote the song.
