Emergency Procedures: Speaking to the Press

I am looking for a sample policy relating to speaking with press, authorization of filming on premises etc. specifically in an emergency but that just as easily could apply at any time.

Basically, we want to limit the extent to which any employee can "speak for the company."

I would appreciate samples of any policy that relate to public relations, press, etc.

You may e-mail me directly at vondaj@frenchquarter.com.

Thanks.

  • Our approach is pretty straight-forward. We only allow our Exec Dir, Fund Development Dir or two Program Directors to speak to the press.

No formal policy, but this information has been communicated to all staff on a couple of occasions. Plus our receptionist and office manager both know how to handle this as they would most likely be first contact with any press on the phone or walking in the front door.
  • Our Emergency Action Plan states that communication with the media is to be done ONLY by the Manager of Marketing and/or our CEO.
