DOTD URGENT!!

Our company has decided to hire drivers for route delivery of dairy products. I know nothing about DOTD and DOTD.gov has not been much help. Do any of you know where I can get plain English information on the requirements of DOTD? Any assistance is appreciated.

  • I'm familiar with DOT regulations but don't know what DOTD is, unless it escapes me. If you're in Louisiana you can call the Louisiana Department of Transportation about intrastate jurisdictional matters, which delivery drivers should be covered by. DOT regulations for all sorts of drivers should be covered at length on DOT websites or your state department can get you a ton of manualized stuff on this. You can also touch base with the highway patrol for certain licensing requirements. Your most immediate concern, I would think, is setting up a drug/alcohol program that meets muster and hiring qualified drivers. You should immediately hire somebody in an administrative capacity who has safety/driver training/DOT experience to keep you legal. It will be 37K well-spent.
  • It sounds like they are driving with a commercial drivers license? If so, federal law requires drug testing and other things. Try the following DOT websites:
