Employment Statistics

I have been assigned the task of calculating departmental statistics for my company. Turnover rates and absenteeism. When calculating these, should I use total number of employees in the department for the year, or the average number over the year? Can anyone give me any tips? I appreciate any responses. THANKS!

Use the AVERAGE number of employees during whatever period you're tracking; otherwise you're statistics will be skewed. Think of it as a snapshot!
