My assistant processes payroll inhouse. She's a very quick learner but has no real training in payroll other than what I've shown her, or she's researched on her own. Most of my experience is with compensable time, but not payroll processing "stuff".
Several months ago we had a change in controllers (they did the tax filing stuff) and we are starting to see how much we DON'T know, like when filings are due, how to file, how voided checks can affect prior quarters' tax filings, how to spot potential errors, handling unclaimed wages, consequences for mistakes, etc. We've been mostly just using common sense, but that doesn't cover everything.
What resources do you use to train new payroll people and stay on top of payroll processing requirements, updates, filing deadlines, etc.? I found the American Payroll Association website, but am wondering what works for my fellow Forumites.
Naturally I looked on HR Hero FIRST, but didn't see anything related to this, just stuff on FLSA.
