Vacations

I have been asked by my superiors to check out what other companies are doing with reference to Vacation Policies. Thanks goodness for this Forum!

We are a logistics company with 170 employees.

Our current policy goes from seniority date to seniority date.

First year - no vacation.
One year but less than 2 years - 5 days
Two years but less than 5 years - 10 days
Five years but less than 10 years - 15 days
Ten years and more - 20 days

It would be helpful to know the type of business, location or area and the number of employees.
Thanks, in advance.

• Good Morning,
We are a bank with 73 EE's, located in central SD, where by the way it is going to be a beautiful 70 degree day!
Our vacation policy is as follows:
DOH to 5 years = 2 weeks
over 5 years = 3 weeks
over 10 years = 4 weeks

Being a bank, we also observe at least 10 holidays throughout the year.

• Years Days
1-4 10
5-9 15
10-14 20
15-24 25
25 or more 30

Manufacturing environment, 700+ employees (~250-300 nonexempt, remainder exempt)

The numbers were to change to as follows (I think), but I cannot find confirmation that the change is now effective:

Years Days
1-4 10
5-14 15
15-24 20
25 or more 25

• Subsidized-housing owner/operator/administrator, 52 regular full time, Missouri (halfway between Kansas City & St. Louis).

0-5 years = 80 hours annually, 160 maximum accrual
5-10= 100 hrs annual, 200 max
10-15= 120 hrs annual, 240 max
15+= 160 hrs annual, 320 max

(ten holidays annually)

We go by hours now because ~1/3 of workforce runs on 10 hour/4 days per week schedules and giving a "day off" to one of these employees is a "greater benefit" (i.e. more costly) than the regular 8-hour shifts.
• 90 days - 1 week
1-4 years - 3 weeks
5-9 years - 4 weeks
10+ years - 5 weeks

We also have 11 holidays and employees are allowed to roll 1 week of vacation over.

Small not-for-profit association with 25 employees.
• O=* You should check out our HR Hero Survey for July on the topic of Paid Leave, which asked about vacation in the first year and after 5 yr. There were 3,000 respondents, and you can filter the results to see responses for your state, for medium-size companies, non-profits, etc.

The results are in the Subscribers Area of this website. If you're not familiar with it, just click the http://www.hrhero.com/img/v3-menu-login.gif button at the top of this page.

After you log in, look for the little yellow box in the last column called "Your Resources." If you need help, call Customer Service at (800) 274-6774.

Hope this helps.
