Employee Breaks in Michigan

Small non-union company in Michigan with about 45 EE's. My understanding regarding breaks is they are simply a benefit to morale and destressing the employees. Am I right that they are neither mandated by State or Federal Law? EE's by our policy are entitled to a one (1) hour non-paid lunch break during the day. Thoughts, citations to appropriate law?
