Deduction in pay for Exempt employees in business is slow

We are a healthcare facility and low volumes have resulted in less available work. We are requiring hourly employees (clinical and non clinical) to flex their hours to reduce cost. Some hourly employees are angery and want exempt staff to do the same. I feel that this may jepordize their exemption. Any creative ideas for exempt staff to assist in this cost cutting effort. Has anyone ever had exempt staff donate their PTO back to the facility?
