Exempt Vacation Time

For many years we have allowed salaried exempt employees to take vacation time in half-day increments. There pay is not altered in any way - they still receive their full salary for the week. We simply charge their time away against their allotted vacation days. I now have an employee saying that we cannot legally make him use a half-day of vacation for a golf tournament he wants to play in. The tournament is purely personal business and not associated in any way with our company or his job. He will receive his full salary for the week; we are simply charging him with a half-day of vacation time. Can I legally do this? I am in Indiana.
