If we "hire" an employee's spouse to come in for a few days to help with a backlog of print shop duties, I am assuming we must treat this hire as an employee under FLSA in terms of requiring a W-4, I-9, and ALL the paperwork that pertains to new employees? Thanks for your help.

Any person you put on your payroll needs to be treated an an employee under FLSA and ALL paperwork must be completed.

You might be able to hire her as casual labor/independent contractor status. I would go that route. Contact your DOL if you have one or call wage & hour if you're unsure as to how this works. I guarantee you they won't hassle you later about whether or not she "held herself out as an expert" in doing that little part time project. A 10-99 won't be needed unless the wages are higher than I assume them to be.

have you thought about using a temporary service? sometimes it is worth the extra money. they will do all the work for you.
